Home EV Charger InstallationCharge Faster. Save More.
Stop relying on public chargers and slow plug sockets. Our OZEV-approved installations give you fast, convenient home charging — with all paperwork, upgrades, and certification handled for you.
Why Install a Home EV Charger?
A dedicated home charger transforms your EV ownership experience. Faster charging, lower costs, and the convenience of waking up to a full battery every morning — without ever visiting a public charging station.
The case for home charging:
- Cost savings: Home electricity costs 7-8p per mile compared to 15-20p+ for petrol. Switch to an EV-specific tariff with cheap overnight rates and save even more.
- Convenience: No queuing at public chargers, no apps to manage, no payment complications. Plug in when you get home, unplug when you leave.
- Speed: A 7kW home charger delivers 25-30 miles of range per hour — enough to fully charge most EVs overnight. That's 7x faster than a standard 3-pin socket.
- Safety: Dedicated chargers include thermal protection, earth fault detection, and are designed for sustained high-power use. Plug sockets aren't engineered for this duty cycle.
- Property value: Home EV chargers are increasingly expected by buyers. Installation now adds appeal to your property.
Who needs an EV charger? Any EV owner in Croydon, Bromley, Sutton, or the wider London area with off-street parking. Whether you've just ordered your first electric car or you're upgrading from a granny charger, a proper installation makes all the difference.

The Problem with Plug Socket Charging
Many new EV owners start by charging from a standard 3-pin plug using the 'granny charger' cable supplied with their car. While this works as a temporary solution, it's not designed for daily use.
Why plug socket charging falls short:
- Painfully slow: A 3-pin socket delivers only 2.3kW — taking 20-24 hours to fully charge a typical EV. You'll never start the day with a full battery unless you plan days ahead.
- Overheating risk: Standard sockets aren't designed for sustained high-current draw. Hours of continuous use at maximum load causes overheating, potentially damaging the socket, wiring, or even causing fire.
- Wear and tear: Daily plugging and unplugging degrades domestic sockets quickly. You'll need socket replacement within months.
- No smart features: No scheduling, no tariff integration, no consumption monitoring. You're missing out on significant cost savings from overnight charging rates.
- Circuit overload: Your car competes with other household loads on the same circuit. Running a kettle while charging could trip your breaker.
The solution: A dedicated EV charger on its own circuit, properly rated for the job, with built-in safety features and smart charging control. Installation costs are modest compared to the convenience and safety benefits.
Our Installation Process
From survey to certification, we handle everything — including grant applications, supply upgrades, and DNO registration.
Site Survey
We assess your electrical supply, parking arrangement, and installation options. For OZEV applications, we confirm eligibility and handle all paperwork.
Charger Selection
Based on your vehicle, usage patterns, and budget, we recommend the optimal charger. We supply and install all major brands.
Supply Upgrade
If your consumer unit needs upgrading to accommodate the charger, we complete this as part of the installation — no separate appointments.
Installation
We install your charger, run cabling, and complete all electrical connections. Typical installations take 3-4 hours.
Commission & Certify
Your charger is tested, configured, and demonstrated. You receive full certification and registration with your DNO.
Benefits of Professional Installation
A properly installed EV charger delivers fast, safe, convenient charging that pays for itself within months through fuel savings alone.
Save £1,000+ Annually
Charging at home costs 7-8p per mile compared to 15-20p for petrol. A typical EV driver saves over £1,000 per year — your charger pays for itself within months.
Charge While You Sleep
No more trips to public chargers or petrol stations. Plug in when you get home, wake up to a full battery. Scheduled charging lets you use cheap overnight electricity rates.
Up to 7x Faster Than Plug Socket
A dedicated 7kW charger fully charges most EVs overnight. A standard 3-pin socket takes 20+ hours for the same charge — and risks overheating.
Increased Property Value
EV chargers are increasingly expected by buyers. An installed charger adds appeal to your property and signals modern infrastructure.
Built-In Safety Features
Dedicated EV chargers include protection against overheating, earth faults, and electrical surges. They're designed for daily high-power use — plug sockets aren't.
Smart Charging Control
Monitor usage, schedule charging, and integrate with your energy tariff via smartphone apps. Load balancing prevents overloading your home supply.
Charger Options We Install
We supply and install all major EV charger brands. Our recommendations are based on your specific needs — not manufacturer incentives. Here's an overview of popular options:
Untethered Chargers
Untethered chargers have a socket that accepts your car's charging cable. Ideal if you have multiple EVs with different connectors, or if you prefer to store your cable in the car. Brands include Wallbox Pulsar, Pod Point Solo, and Easee One.
Tethered Chargers
Tethered chargers have a permanently attached cable — just grab and plug in. More convenient for single-vehicle households. The cable is always ready and doesn't need storing. Popular options include Ohme Home Pro, Andersen A2, and Hypervolt Home.
Smart Chargers
All chargers we install are 'smart' as required by regulations from 2022 onwards. They connect to WiFi for app control, scheduled charging, tariff integration, and load management. Some integrate with solar PV systems for free daytime charging.
Three-Phase Chargers
For faster charging (11kW or 22kW), three-phase supply is required. This suits commercial premises or homes with existing three-phase supply. We can advise whether three-phase is beneficial for your situation.
Load Management
If your home supply can't comfortably support a 7kW charger alongside normal household use, we install dynamic load management. This automatically adjusts charging speed based on other electrical demand, preventing overload.
EV Charger Installation FAQs
Answers to the most common questions about home EV charging.
Signs You're Ready for a Home EV Charger
Charging on a 3-pin plug is slow, inefficient and a recognised fire risk. A proper wall unit pays for itself within 18–24 months for most drivers.
All home charger installations must be notified to your DNO and registered to BS 7671 — we handle every step including the paperwork your insurer will ask for.
- You've ordered or recently taken delivery of an EV or plug-in hybrid
- You have off-street parking within 10–15m of your consumer unit
- You're currently 'granny charging' on a domestic 3-pin socket
- Your monthly public charging bill is over £80
- You're on a time-of-use tariff like Octopus Go and want to charge cheaply overnight

Worried About Installing an EV Charger?
EV charging is still new for most households. These are the four questions we answer every week.
"Will my house wiring even cope with it?"
We carry out a free load assessment as part of the survey — measuring your incoming supply, consumer unit headroom and existing demand. If an upgrade is needed, you see the cost before committing.
"What about cable trailing across the front of my house?"
We plan the cleanest possible route during the survey — through-wall, behind soffits, buried in the drive or routed via the loft. You approve the route in writing before any work starts.
"Will the charger be obsolete in two years?"
We only fit OCPP-compliant, app-enabled units from established manufacturers (Ohme, Wallbox, Hypervolt, Zappi). Firmware updates over the air, full smart-charging and solar integration are built in.
"What if I sell the house?"
A correctly installed, certified EV charger is now a property asset — RICS surveyors flag it as a positive valuation factor. We hand you the full installation pack to pass on to a buyer.
